And then there were ... none, no, wait, one.
The local Food Lion Grocery store had fruit trees for $13.99. There were several varieties of apples and pears and I think even a cherry. Well, I was debating getting one for the yard since we cut down our Holly Tree. We need some shade for the yard.

So, Jenn and I finally decided to get one. We loaded up us and Happy in the Jeep and went to the closest Food Lion. They had a sign up that the price was cut to $6.99. And, yep, you guessed it -- the trees were all gone. Back to the house to drop Happy off and back out again to the other Food Lion.

We got there and they had about 6 trees left. All Cortland Apple trees. I never heard of Cortland but it was better than nothing. It's planted in the middle of the yard now. I looked up Cortland and it seems like a great apple.

Oh, and I borrowed my uncle's small rototiller, so I can put in a bigger garden. We might have corn on the cob this summer yet. :)

Onions? Yuck. You have the wrong house, I think. :)

Actually, I half thought about onions. Ever since I added some to my meat loaf recipe, I've found I like the taste. So I've added it to some of my other dishes too. (You know the ones I make just for me.) So having a few onions wouldn't be so bad.

Onions in very small amounts are fine. But most people over-spice their food with too much onion.

I don't like onions either, but when they're used in a base for soup? Yum! It doesn't make it taste onion-y, but it adds a good flavor.

No, we haven't. We bought the house last June/July, so it was too late by then. However, before we even closed the deal, [info]rhillai had bought a huge stack of seeds from Wal-Mart. :)

This will be really great because we'll save money. Especially since I have to eat more veggies now.

I'd be interested in hearing how things go! I really want to plant a garden next year, but I don't even know where to start, lol!

I just spent a couple hours using the small rototiller and getting a 5x5 section tilled.

Now we have sweet corn, green beans, cantaloupe, and some more baby spinach planted. If I get energetic in the coming months, I might till another 5x5 section and plant some more for a fall harvest.

Cool! We planted a new tree this weekend, too! I think everyone had good sales on them!
